Little human behavior changes and tricks that could make society much better right now

Add your own!

  • Much human interaction is superficial when it has the capacity to be transformative.  One  opportunity lies in complimenting people on things they are really good at - for instance, “you’re really good at making alliterative phrases.”  A compliment like that can dramatically impact someone’s life and begin them on a path to realizing nascent potentials. The gift is in listening really closely to another person and looking in an original way at them.
  • Salontroductions – An awesome technique to provide light structure to facilitate a group of people making meaningful connections, instead of talking at random. Pioneered at intellectual salons, But works in restaurants, in gatherings of people you bring together at conferences, etc. Going around the circle each person:

  • Says their name and then everyone else echoes it back in unison
  • Shares one thing you can ask them about
  • Shares one thing you can do with them this week

<!-- -->

  • More mathematicians realizing it’s not a waste of time to go and contribute on math overflow instead of writing their papers. More faculty,  employers, and decision-makers who would look at  contributions on these sites as real work. (Who are some that already do so? Terry Tao? Tim Gowers? Michael Nielsen?)
